Harry’s Climate Speech Took Off—Literally—and It’s Not a Good Look

Prince Harry’s sustainability speech in China sparks backlash as critics question the environmental cost of his private jet travel.

Prince Harry Shanghai China Speech

Prince Harry is under fire (again) after flying from Los Angeles to China to give a speech on sustainable travel.

Yep, you read that right — he clocked thousands of miles in what was likely a private or first-class jet to tell others to fly less. Critics are calling it peak hypocrisy.

The carbon footprint? An estimated 6,300 kg of greenhouse gas emissions — and that’s just one round trip.

Climate activists, including the leader of the UK’s Climate Party, weren’t shy about it. They argued Harry should’ve just hit Zoom like the rest of us. “If you’re going to talk the talk, you’ve got to live it too,” one said, pointing out Harry reportedly racks up over 83,000 air miles a year.

To make matters more eyebrow-raising, his speech came amid praise for China’s green energy push — even though the country still leans heavily on coal.

Commentators didn’t hold back, questioning whether Harry is taken seriously at all. His academic background was even brought into question, with some arguing that he’s more a performer than a policymaker.

Still, the discussion sparked a deeper debate: Should we push ahead with today’s green tech (like electric and hydrogen planes) or wait for something better? One thing’s clear: the net-zero economy is booming, and some say Harry’s heart is in the right place — even if his jet isn’t.
