Surprisingly, the current most wanted drug lord in Mexico is a former police officer, whose career path took a 180 degree turn when he resorted to a life of violence and crime.

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, who is mostly known by his nickname El Mencho, is now one of the most formidable criminals in Mexico and is among the most notorious drug traffickers on the planet.

According to Paul Craine, renowned figure in the fight against organized crime, El Mencho is a threat to the society as he has thousands of fanatic followers by his side.

In recent weeks, several federal DEA agents attended a meeting in Chicago with representatives from the highest Mexican security officials to discuss the measures that need to be taken against the powerful crime boss and his group, known as the Jalisco New Generation cartel, which was founded in 2009.

El Mencho’s influence has grown so much over the past few years that it has even taken over the lead from the El Chapo’s Sinaloa cartel in the battle for power between the drug lords of Mexico.

The ruthless cartel is mostly known for their mass production of drugs like methamphetamine and heroin as well as the distribution of tons of cocaine.

El Mencho also had at his disposal a whole army of well-organized soldiers, the majority of whom were equipped with assault rifles.

What probably made the Jalisco New Generation cartel so successful was the way it was structured, as it is known that the group functions mainly as a paramilitary organization.

For the time being, El Mencho is among the most wanted criminals on the globe with the bounty for his head being set to $6.5 million. He is directly blamed for the rise in violence in Mexican states like Guanajuato and Puebla.

Experts in this field say that the collaboration between Mexico and America is a step in the right direction although it may take years before getting concrete results.
